Browncoat, p.n. A fan of the sci-fi series Firefly.
Addendum: The term “Browncoat” was used in the series by the Alliance to refer to the Independents during and after the Unification War (similar to the American Civil War; in Firefly, the monolithic Alliance wanted to put the system under their rule, and the Independents broke away in an attempt to preserve self-government), because their uniform included a shin-length brown duster. As the Independents were a sympathetic faction in the show (Captain Malcom Reynolds and First Mate Zoe Washburn being former Independents), fans adopted the term to identify themselves.
